Dear all,
There is a saying in quantum physics: 'The watched quantum pot never boils.' Quantum physicists have discovered that through our observation and measurement alone we can slow down events at the subatomic level. This form of influence is known as the Zeno effect. Fortunately, we can also speed reactions up, and this is called the inverse Zeno effect. We can, in fact, boil the pot by watching! By using observation and measurement, we literally control the tempo at which the universe plays its quantum music. Whether we know it or not, we are applying the Zeno effect--or its inverse--every day to the creation of the life of our dreams.
If you want to accelerate success or the achievement of any goal, it's important to measure your progress at the right times and at the right places.
Have you ever said to yourself, 'Oh, I can't believe I just did that!' Or, 'What was I thinking??' You may even go so far as to call yourself names. Every time you do that, you are taking a measurement of yourself. The measurements we take of ourselves can either speed us up or slow us down on our way to our goals. Choosing when and how often you measure yourself is one of the most powerful tools you have to accelerate the creation of your dreams.
So, how can you apply the inverse Zeno effect in your life? First, measure yourself in the right places. The right place to measure yourself is right after you've just accomplished something, no matter how small. Let's say you've had a day in which you've felt really non-productive. Now it's the end of the day, and with all the interruptions, you haven't checked much of your list. What is the one small thing you can check off your list? Can you make a phone call? Create your list of things to do for tomorrow? Send an e-mail? Look up a phone number? Did you help others make progress toward their goals during the day? Take that measurement!
Secondly, take those good measurements frequently. By consciously choosing to measure yourself when you've made progress--even if you have to look for the progress you've made--you will bolster your self esteem, reinforce your objective, and speed your way to your goals.
Wishing you every possibility--
Kim
