Here’s another science-based tool that you can use to enhance your possibility amplification powers: music.

A research project by Dr Joydeep Bhattacharya at the University of London demonstrated that you will perceive the faces of people around you as happier if you have just listened to some happy music, even just 15 seconds. You will also perceive the faces of people around you as sadder if you’ve just listened to some sad music. And it only takes about 15 seconds of music to create the effect.

Why do I think that might be helpful to you? If you wake up in the morning and you’re feeling a bit off your game, or if you’re not happy with yourself because of something you did—or forgot to do—the day before, or you just lost a sale to the competition, you may be judging yourself pretty harshly. As discussed in Chapter 5 of my book, The Science of Making Things Happen, Turn Any Possibility into Reality, these negative judgements apply the Zeno effect, a phenomenon from quantum physics, which will slow your progress toward your goals.

If you can spend even 15 seconds listening to some happy music, you will see happiness reflected in the faces of those around you, and their happy faces may remind you that life is not that bad, that in fact, these people are glad to see you, and that positive environmental reinforcement will help you to re-balance and re-connect with your own power and peace.

And that will reinvigorate your possibility amplification powers! Can’t wait to see what you turn into reality.

At 17 years old, Steven Ortiz is a role model at amplifying possibility into reality. Spending absolutely no money, he now owns a Porsche.

What Steven did is find people who needed what he had, and he offered it to them in exchange for what they had to offer. In these interesting economic times, it’s apparently entirely possible that a family might want to trade an expensive, two-seater sports car for a more roomy and utilitarian vehicle that meets their needs.

http://wcbstv.com/topstories/cell.phone.porsche.2.1817906.html

Steven first traded a free cell phone he’d been given for a better model.

Let me repeat that. Steven first traded a free cell phone he’d been given for a better model.

Now…why would somebody want to do that? Well, I can tell you that after my son recently lost the brand new iPhone 3GS I bought him for Christmas, we selected a more conventional cell phone with a more economical service plan in order to recoup the cost of that lost phone. There are probably lots of people out there with 2 or 3 or 4-year contracts that would like to downgrade their plans, and not pay for a new phone. Makes sense, right?

As we think about the value we are trying to create in our own lives, Steven’s story makes it clear that we can create enormous value in our own lives by creating value in the lives of others. And there are many, many ways to achieve that.

Sometimes we become blocked because we think we know how we must turn our dreamed of possibilities into reality. Or we think we know that certain possibilities only come from certain activities, or connections.

The truth is that the universe has more ways to deliver our dreams to us than we can count. Explore every new idea for its potential. Somewhere, the cosmic Powers That Be will laugh in delight when you discover a new path that has so far been hidden from all of us.

In my book, I discuss a phenomenon from quantum physics called the inverse Zeno effect, in which physicists have discovered that they can slow down or speed up subatomic processes just by measuring them. The same thing is true in our everyday world. What we measure and how we measure will determine whether we slow certain processes down, or speed them up. If our goal is to have amazing lives, fabulous lives, lives that we consider truly worthwhile, then perhaps some of the ways we currently measure ourselves don’s measure up…Chip Conley talks about this on a country by country basis in this TED talk.

Well, the police tell us that if the GPS is turned on, the police will be able to locate the thieves. So we still have that going for us.

And the Zune…I’m not giving up on it yet. Unless Connie’s husband really wanted an upgrade, anyway.

This was not a happy day. Last week my new (and still temporary) assistant called to inform me that her car had been broken into during the night, and that the two (not just one, but two!) laptops she was transferring files between had been stolen. Along with the family GPS and her husband’s Zune.

Not only that, but I had sent her to the Apple store with a check on her way home to buy a brand new MacBook battery for one of those laptops, and it was in the bag with the computers. Also gone.

When she called to tell me, it was clear that she was upset and remorseful, and having just moved to the Augusta area, completely and utterly surprised by the crime. (I’m from Miami, on the other hand, and the whole thing made perfect sense to me.)

I considered my options. First, be really upset, mourn the loss, fire the temp assistant, take a really long time to get over it, take this as a sign that the direction I’m going in is completely wrong.

Second, decide that it really is just two old laptops, understand the honest and a bit naive mistake made by the assistant in leaving the valuable property of her employer in a car overnight, continue to value her contributions despite, gauge what kind of exposure I might have from the content on the drives, protect myself from that, provide the serial numbers to the police and wait to buy any new computers until they’d had a chance to solve the crime. (Pawn shop owners have to report serial numbers to the police. Could happen.)

I picked #2. What would you have picked? Maybe none. Maybe you would have picked some middle road between these two almost polarized positions. I was a bit remorseful about the battery, though. Brand new thing. Would have to go buy another new one should the laptop show up again. That would be a bummer.

But they say good things often come in brown paper packages. And this is a Richmond County police evidence bag:

In it are: two Mac laptops. In pristine condition. A power supply and cord. A brand new, shrink-wrapped Macbook battery. In an Apple Store shopping bag.

That’s all. No GPS. No Zune. Just everything I lost, for some wacky, unknown and completely amped up reason, found on the side of the road and returned by the police.

Found on the side of the road. Pristine condition.

My assistant, while reading my book in bed next to her husband that weekend said, “I think Kim made this happen.”

Hmmmm…let it go, and it will come back to you?

You decide.

10 Things To Love
About The Future

The future is sometimes a scary thing. When you’re down or challenged, you imagine the worst possible outcomes happening to you, and spend sleepless nights wondering how you will get through it all. How can you overcome your fear of the unknown future and instead embrace it to create what you want in life?
If you can look to the future as a positive place where your dreams dominate and your fears take a backseat, you can feel more confident in your own creativity and tolerate more risk. Confidence and risk tolerance are two key components in achieving what you want. To get there, you need to shift your perception of the future and what it portends.
I personally love the future. I’d like to share with you some of the reasons why in the hopes that if you’re worrying about your own future you will gain some new motivation to put that worry aside and adore the future as much as I do.

10. There’s so much of it. Or at least, I think there is. Like most humans, I consider myself relatively immortal. The older I get, the more I become familiar with my own creaking life cycle, but I still can’t see the end on the horizon. Even if I were to die tomorrow, the day I’m living today can be as long or short, as joyful or depressing, as fulfilling or worrisome as I allow it be. I can make whatever time I have left feel like a long road into hell or a short and merry skip to the market.
9. It’s unpredictable. I’m surprised by the number of the times I’ve said to myself, “I never imagined that my life would take this turn.” It’s encouraging to know I can’t predict the future all the time, no matter how good of a futurist I am. That means the thrill of discovery still belongs to me, and the manner in which my creations will manifest will often surprise and delight me.
8. It’s generous. I know that I will be given so much in the years to come: love, new friends, beautiful days, engaging experiences, laughter…the universe has so much to give, and there’s always more where that come from. I can happily appreciate every gift as it comes my way, and I can fully expect continued abundance from an unlimited source.
7. It’s full of discovery. We’ve come to a time in our evolution when the universe seems like an onion that we’re peeling apart layer by layer. I can’t wait to see what the next layers will reveal to us! Each layer we’ve revealed so far has taught us more about our own power to create and change our world. There’s so much more to come.
6. It’s mine. If I embrace my own power, I can live in the future any way I want. Every day I have the opportunity to accept that challenge. Every day that I do not, my future becomes someone else’s, not mine.
5. It’s a promise. As I sit here writing, some future is promised to me, no matter how small. I can make every moment of it count, if I stay awake and aware. The more precious I make my moments, the more useful and valuable they will become. The ones I let pass with small notice are the gold coins that fall out of my pocket while I run to fix the past or the future.
4. It will teach me. There is so much more to learn! Before me lie infinite chances to turn information into knowledge, and knowledge into wisdom. I am a practicing student in between the moments when I think I know everything and when I think I know nothing. When I stop thinking about what I do and do not know and let my mind discover, I sit lightly at the feet of the future and learn.
3. It’s the playing field of my purpose. My legacy is yet to be written. I can choose in each future moment to be true to my purpose and to honor my passions, because no one else can make my contribution but me. The field is huge, the possibilities limitless, and all I have to do is suit up, show up, and play the game.
2. It’s exciting! As the creator of my own experience, I look forward to all of the wonderful and as yet unknown possibilities that I will amplify into reality! I have seen, projected and predicted the future, I have designed, visualized and planned the future, but there’s nothing as powerful as the future turning into the present and all of those projections, predictions, visualizations and plans becoming reality in this moment.
1. It’s a loom. And on that loom, as my life’s master weaver, it’s my intention to weave a rich, warm and tasty tapestry of life, full of hope, cheer, love, comfort and passion from the fabric of time.

And if you want to Amp It Up: Get started right this second! The future is already here, and it waits for no one. Not even a master weaver like you.

Some of these really resonated with me, and so I know they will resonate with you! One of my personal missions is to lighten up, so that I can remember that I am connected to everything; that I have an important place in the universe; that I have the power to turn any possibility into reality! And you do, too!

Let’s have fun and Amp It Up!

1. I think part of a best friend’s job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn’t want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I’m pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren’t going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don’t want to have to restart my collection…again.

13. I’m always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. “Do not machine wash or tumble dry” means I will never wash this – ever.

15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Damn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice mail. What did you do after I didn’t answer? Drop the phone and run away?

16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

17. I keep some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

21. Sometimes, I’ll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

22. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.

24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

25. How many times is it appropriate to say “What?” before you just nod and smile because you still didn’t hear or understand a word they said?

26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a dick from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

27. There’s no worse feeling than that millisecond you’re sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

28. Sometimes I’ll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is. Maybe multitasking’s not so good for me?

Have a fun day! Remember, no matter how you approach it, the next 24 hours will pass, anyway!
