Turn Your Possibilities into Reality

What’s a possibilist?

Though you will find definitions of this term related to geography, philosophy and politics, I mean simply that a possibilist is someone who recognizes that all possibilities exist, though they may not yet have manifested* in this time/space.  My own philosophy further adds that a possibilist is someone who believes these possibilities can be accessed and brought to life in our “real” world.  And if I were to get really specific, a possibilist also believes that he or she is the conduit via which this process happens.  A possibilist chooses which possibilities to amplify into reality, and then, using basic, innate skills, makes it happen.

Yes.  Innate.  These skills reside inside you, whether you’re currently exercising them or not.  As I often say at my speaking engagements, human beings are the best designed Possibility Amplifiers in the universe.  We’re so good at it, in fact, that we can even turn the impossible into reality, and if you pause a moment, I’m sure you can think of some things that humans used to think were impossible, but that are now part of our everyday lives.

So, let’s tighten up that definition of a possibilist: A possibilist believes that all possibilities are personally available, and once a specific possibility is chosen, the possibilist can amplify it into reality.

My editor always had trouble with the phrase “amplify into reality.” She said “we don’t amplify into.” And I would agree that historically we have not.  But today we are.  Today, we need a new turn of phrase that can capture our ability to take the tiniest thought or idea and make it a big, juicy, exciting reality.  We didn’t use to say, “Earth’s orbit.”  We thought the universe spun around the Earth.  We didn’t used to say, “around the world.” We used to think the world was flat.  We didn’t used to say, “remission.” Cancer killed us nearly every time.  It’s time for a new vocabulary.

*I don’t really like to use the word “manifest,” because it’s been so overused.  I like “amplify” because it’s a word that quantum physicists use to describe the process of quantum possibility becoming reality.  If you have a better turn of phrase than “amplify into reality,” I would love to hear it.  And so would my publisher. :)  Just kidding!  They don’t get to see the manuscript ’til next month!

Meanwhile, tune in next week for my post on how to become a possibilist.  I’ll give you all my personal and counterintuitive secrets.

Wishing you every possibility! –K.
